ROUNDUP : El Toro Sets School Record, Mater Dei Falls

Brad Bracha, Daniel Julson, Matt Tilton and John Simmons set a school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay to lead El Toro to a 137-33 victory over Mater Dei Tuesday in a South Coast League boys’ swimming meet in Lake Forest.

The relay team finished in 1 minutes 29.02 seconds. Simmons won the 200 freestyle (1:45.06) and the 100 freestyle (46.98) and Terry Dougherty won the 100 butterfly (56.02) and 500 freestyle (5:01.91) for the Chargers (9-1, 4-0).

In other South Coast League meets:

Capistrano Valley 120, San Clemente 50--Jake Yokota won the 100 freestyle (49.74) and the 100 breaststroke (1:03.38) for Capistrano Valley (7-1, 3-1). San Clemente is 1-3 in league.

In Sunset League boys’ swimming:

Fountain Valley 93, Servite 90--Fountain Valley’s Rick Newton won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.16 and qualified for the Southern Section Division I meet.

In South Coast League girls’ swimming:

El Toro 109, Mater Dei 61--Michelle Perry won the 200 individual medley (2:14.78) and 100 backstroke (1:03.40) for El Toro (10-0, 4-0).

San Clemente 88, Capistrano Valley 82--Tracy McCalley won the 100 butterfly (1:00.21) and the 200 freestyle (1:58.13) for Capistrano Valley (2-4, 1-3). San Clemente is 2-2 in league.

In Orange League golf:

Brea-Olinda 192, Valencia 204--Joel Del Giorgio shot par 36 for Brea-Olinda (13-0, 7-0) at Imperial. The Wildcats clinched their second consecutive league championship.

Western 197, Savanna 230--Tiger Woods shot par 35 at Dad Miller for Western (2-4 in league).

In the South Coast League:

El Toro 402, Dana Hills 420--Ben Garner shot a one-under 71 for El Toro at El Toro Marine Base.

Mission Viejo 217, Mater Dei 231--The Diablos won their first league match in three seasons. Justin Courter was medalist for Mission Viejo (3-11, 1-5), shooting a four-over 40 at Mission Viejo.

In the Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 199, Westminster 215--Jeff Taylor shot a one-under 34 for Fountain Valley (5-8, 3-5) at Meadowlark. Westminster is 0-8 in league.

In Century League boys’ tennis:

Villa Park 11, Canyon 7--Jason DeVera swept in singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, to improve to 38-1 for Villa Park (11-2, 5-0). Host Canyon is 2-3 in league.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 11, Estancia 7--Jordan Levinson and Lars Hansen swept, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1, in doubles for host Laguna Beach (11-4, 5-0). Estancia is 5-9, 2-3.

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 11, Saddleback 7-- Ali Jahangiri and Lars Hoglund won four of their six singles sets for host Corona Del Mar (15-1, 10-0).

Newport Harbor 13, Santa Margarita 5--Geoff Abrams, Jeff Thomsen, and Chris Ketcham swept their singles sets for host Newport Harbor (8-8, 6-4).

Woodbridge 11, Irvine 7--Bob Lee swept at singles, 7-5, 6-0, 6-0, for host Woodbridge (12-4, 6-4). Irvine is 5-5 in league.

In the Sunset League:

Marina 12, Ocean View 6--At No. 2 doubles, Adam Lipson and Steve Wong swept, 7-6, 6-2, 6-1, for Marina (15-2, 11-0). Host Ocean View is 11-6, 8-3.

Edison 13, Huntington Beach 5--Jeff Baker swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for Edison (11-7, 9-3). Jon Rosa and Steve Fishbeck swept in doubles, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3, for Huntington Beach (5-12, 3-9).
