Strike The Gold Wins in Comeback
Strike The Gold, the 1991 Kentucky Derby winner, made an impressive return to the races with a 3 1/2-length victory over Alyten in a $46,000 allowance race at Aqueduct on Wednesday.
Making his first start since the Breeders’ Cup Classic last October, Strike The Gold unleashed his patented late rally to cover the mile in 1:35 1/5. Having recovered from a bout of anemia this winter, the 5-year-old son of Alydar earned his sixth lifetime victory for trainer Nick Zito.
Strike The Gold, carrying 117 pounds and ridden by Craig Perret, returned $4.60, $3.40 and $2.20.
