COUNTYWIDE : Board Delays Shift to 4-Day Workweek

Ventura County government will delay switching to a four-day workweek until June, giving employees more time to make child-care arrangements, the Board of Supervisors decided Tuesday.
Following the recommendation of county personnel officials, the board unanimously agreed that it would be best to postpone the start date until the end of the school year.
Previously, the supervisors had planned to implement the new schedule May 23. Starting June 21, most county offices will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday--a move that officials say will save up to 40 jobs and reduce spending by at least $650,000.
Officials say the one-month delay will assist parents who are finding it difficult to line up baby-sitters to watch their children in the early morning and then take them to school.
The decision to make Friday the day off was reached in keeping with four-day workweeks adopted in the cities of Oxnard, Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.
