CAMARILLO : 4-Year Terms OKd for Most Appointees

The Camarillo City Council has approved setting four-year terms for most appointed positions.

The council voted unanimously Wednesday to establish the terms for all seats on the city’s Rent Review Commission and the Community Development Block Grant committee.

The new policy also applies to council-appointed seats on countywide volunteer panels that do not already have designated terms, which include the Arts Council, the Citizens Transportation Advisory Committee and the Countywide Planning Program Advisory Committee.

To stagger the terms on individual committees, the residents appointed most recently will be up for reappointment in four years while veteran members will have to reapply for their positions in two years.

Mayor Charlotte Craven said she initially suggested setting terms for volunteer committees in 1990, when she learned that a resident appointed to a countywide panel had not attended meetings for 10 years.

“Most of our committee members do attend meetings, but it never hurts to have a term,” Craven said Wednesday.

While most Camarillo residents appointed to the various city and county volunteer committees began serving within the past five years, several have held their seats for more than 10 years.
