OAK PARK : State to Help Fund Adult School Classes

Share

The Oak Park Unified School District will start an adult education program next fall with state funds that recently were made available for school districts that did not offer adult education classes this year.

The district, in eastern Ventura County, will receive about $26,000 next year. Funding is expected to double the following year.

The funding “is really small, but it is a nice window of opportunity for us,” said Larry Misel, director of alternative education programs. “We’re not going to be doing a lot of dynamic things right now with that money.”

The program will accommodate about 35 to 40 students next year, Misel said.

He said the district is considering programs such as parenting, English as a Second Language, and diploma classes for students who have failed required courses.

Misel said the district may also offer a community services program, which would be self-supporting and not paid for by state funds.
