LAGUNA NIGUEL : Plans to Widen La Paz Road OKd

Share

The City Council has approved plans to widen a one-mile section of La Paz Road to four lanes, a project expected to cost more than $2.3 million.

The section of the road slated for widening begins just north of Kings Road, continues north past the Sulphur Creek Reservoir, and ends at the entrance to Laguna Niguel Regional Park near Aliso Creek Road.

The street narrows to one lane in each direction for portions of that stretch, making it the only section of La Paz Road within the city that is not four lanes, City Manager Tim Casey said.

Both the city’s General Plan and the county’s master plan identify La Paz Road as an arterial highway requiring four lanes, Casey said.

Final designs for the road will include a median with street lights, bicycle lanes in each direction, and sidewalks on both sides.

BSI Consultants completed the designs and estimated the total project costs at $2,348,690.

Casey said the city is now accepting bids from contractors.
