EASY BREATHERS: The smog season has just begun (B1), but Simi Valley has a prohibitive lead in the standings. It has had twice as many smoggy days since 1988 as the rest of the county’s measuring sites combined. Even so, “this is not a bad place for emphysema patients,” said Dr. Gurdip Flora, a pulmonary specialist in Simi Valley. In fact, he said, many of his patients moved to Simi to escape the even smoggier climes of Los Angeles. “It’s much better here.”
