Readers Saw Different Sides of Jim Valvano
The death of Jim Valvano is a tragedy. But the man was no hero.
A true hero would have made sure his players were receiving an education while they attended North Carolina State. Not one starter graduated while he was head coach. That’s a tragedy on par with his death.
He was merely another coach who lost all perspective on what college is and left dozens of young men out to dry when it came to education. It’s sad when our society calls a man like him a hero.
