Airline to Offer Low Coast-to-Coast Fares: Skybus, a low-fare airline based in Florida, will begin West Coast service later this month, flying from Long Beach to Newark and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., for $169 one way without restrictions. Operating a single flight a day to each destination, the small airline will launch the new service May 27 and will offer a promotional $99 one-way fare for travel through June 15. The flight to Newark includes a stop in Kansas City, Mo., and the flight to Ft. Lauderdale requires a stop in Houston. Skybus offers very few frills and charges extra for many services, such as in-flight meals. It costs $25 to reserve a seat, for example, and $5 to check a bag.
