NEWBURY PARK : 3 Male Students’ Behavior Investigated

Share

Three male students have been suspended from Newbury Park High School while school administrators investigate claims by two female students that the boys treated them inappropriately, a school board member said.

Conejo Valley Unified School District Supt. William Seaver would not comment on the reason for the suspensions handed down Wednesday, citing an ongoing investigation and confidentiality in actions involving minors.

School board member William Henry said the students are being investigated for behavior similar to sexual harassment, although he said that term was too harsh to describe the allegations.

“What we may have here is some horseplay with possibly sexual overtones,” Henry said. “It’s not the kind of thing we tolerate, but I get the impression it’s not too serious either.”

The investigation was expected to be completed by early next week, when the students could be returned to school or recommended for further discipline, depending upon the findings, Seaver said.

The suspensions have been the topic of discussion and rumors at the school, according to some students interviewed at the campus.

“A lot of rumors are going around,” said Dawn Cressler, 15, a ninth-grader at the school. “No one knows what to believe.”

Administrators at the school did not return telephone calls seeking comment.
