Eric Davis, his grand slam in Tuesday night’s game notwithstanding, continued working with former Dodger Reggie Smith in the batting cage Wednesday and did not start Wednesday night.

But Smith said it shouldn’t be long before Davis is back. “He’s back mentally,” Smith said. “He has cleared out everything else and knows what he has to do. The rest will take care of itself.”

Davis said he has enjoyed working with Smith. “We ride together to the park and we talk about things, all kinds of things,” Davis said. “I haven’t had anybody to talk with like that since Dave Parker.”

The Dodger game Wednesday night’s game was broadcast locally on radio station KAZN (1300) in Chinese (Mandarin), marking the first time a regular-season baseball game has ever been broadcast in the Chinese language in the United States. . . . Darryl Strawberry said his back is responding well to intense therapy. Strawberry sits in the dugout when the game starts and heads into the clubhouse if the weather turns chilly (because of back stiffness) and says he watches the rest of the game on TV.
