UN-SOLID GROUND: Geologists aren’t sure yet whether an earthquake fault along the Ventura Freeway, discussed at a conference this week, would produce tremors--or even if it exists. But there are about a dozen major faults in Los Angeles that have moved during the past 10,000 years. “If you look for every fault, there are hundreds of offshoots,” said Jim Mori of the U. S. Geological Survey in Pasadena. “Of course, we haven’t found them all. There’s always a chance for more.”
