Upscale Hotel Chain Cuts Summer Rates

The upscale Inter-Continental hotel chain is again offering its “Summer Spectacular” program of reduced rates at various hotels throughout the world, from May 28 through Sept. 12.

In Europe, 38 hotels in 27 cities are participating. Reductions off regular rates go as high as 60% in some locations. Rates, including daily full breakfast, range from $99 to $279 per room, based on single or double occupancy.

Some sample prices: $149 at the Castellana Inter-Continental in Madrid, which represents an almost 60% discount off the standard rate of $350, and $209 at the Hotel Inter-Continental in Vienna, almost 30% off the rate of $290.

Twelve cities in the Asia Pacific region have participating hotels: Adelaide and Sydney, Australia; Bangkok, Thailand; Bombay and New Delhi, India; Colombo, Sri Lanka; Jakarta, Indonesia; Manila, the Philippines; Seoul, South Korea; Shenzhen, China, and Tokyo and Yokohama, Japan. Sample rates range from $86 in Colombo to $240 at the Keio Plaza in Tokyo, not including breakfast.

Another 11 hotels are in the program throughout the United States and Canada, including two in Chicago plus one each in Los Angeles, Miami, Maui, Montreal, New Orleans, New York, Toronto and Washington.

Among the benefits offered in U.S. hotels are the choice of complimentary amenities, which could be an upgrade to a one-bedroom suite, an adjoining guest room for half-price, a $25 food and beverage credit at the hotel, free parking during the length of stay, or 1,000 miles per night credited to the frequent flier program of either American or United Airlines.

Rates range from $89 at the Forum Hotel in Chicago and $99 in New Orleans to $159 at the Maui Inter-Continental.
