Simi Valley 1, El Modena 0--The Pioneers (24-1-1), ranked second in the state and seeded No. 1 in the division, scored the game’s only run on a disputed play at the plate.

Jessica Cunningham led off the sixth with a bunt single, moved to second on a passed ball, then advanced to third on a sacrifice. Then, Simi Valley pitcher Sara Griffin, who also pitched a one-hitter, hit a ground ball to second.

El Modena second baseman Amy Moreno fielded the ball, checked Cunningham, then threw to first baseman Kara Hartl. Then Cunningham broke for home. El Modena catcher Nicki Kolody took the throw from Hartl, but Cunningham was ruled safe on the tag play.

Alexis Beckman allowed only four hits for the Vanguards (18-5).

In other Division I games:

Camarillo 2, El Toro 0--Laura Richardson (19-3) pitched a two-hitter and struck out five to send visiting Camarillo (23-6) to the semifinals. Losing pitcher Misty Lauby (12-6) fanned 13 and also allowed only two hits, including Julie Borchard’s run-scoring triple in the fourth inning. Borchard scored later in the inning on a delayed double steal. El Toro finished 18-13.

Los Alamitos 1, Marina 0 (22 innings)--Becky Rosetti beat the throw to the plate on Debbie Wilson’s grounder to short with one out in the 22nd inning to lift host Los Alamitos (23-3) over second-ranked Marina (23-4) and into the semifinals against third-seeded Camarillo.

Rosetti singled to center to open the inning. She slipped attempting to steal, but catcher Heather Williams hesitated and Rosetti beat the throw. Michelle Schneider sacrificed. After Carolyn Wilson, who had four singles, walked, Debbie Wilson followed with a bouncer to short. The throw to the plate was late, ending the four-hour contest.

Carrie Dolan (8-1) pitched a seven-hitter, struck out 15 and didn’t walk anyone. Marcy Crouch pitched the first 13 innings for Marina (23-4), giving up six hits; Heather Hibben took the loss.
