BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Reds’ Bowden Receives Death Threats
Cincinnati Red General Manager Jim Bowden and his family have received death threats since he fired Manager Tony Perez, a newspaper reported.
“It bothers me that my family is getting threats, but I’ve awakened every morning and said to my wife, ‘Amy, I made the right decision. I did the right thing at the right time,’ ” Bowden told the Dayton Daily News.
A message on Bowden’s office answering machine reportedly said: “Bowden, you’re a dead man.”
Bowden did not travel with the Reds to New York for their series against the Mets. The club had no comment. Perez was fired last Monday and replaced by former New York Met manager Davey Johnson.
