Summer Splash : An Amusing Summer

Special events are planned at area amusement parks, water parks and zoos:

Disneyland’s Electrical Parade and “Fantasmic” show can be seen nightly through the summer, beginning June 19. Ball Road at Santa Ana Freeway, Anaheim.

Knott’s Berry Farm’s “Happy Birthday, Camp Snoopy!” continues through Labor Day, with four new rides and attractions. 8039 Beach Blvd., Buena Park.

Los Angeles Zoo has classes planned all summer--June 12-Sept. 26--for preschoolers to adults. Conservation Day is next Saturday; concerts are scheduled July 13 and 27. Griffith Park, Los Angeles.

Oasis Water Resort features 15 water amusements, including free-fall slides, family slides and three new creature fantasy slides for small children. Gene Autry Trail, Palm Springs.

Queen Mary: The grand reopening is June 23, with fireworks Friday-Saturdays through Labor Day. Admission to the ship is now free. Queens Highway, Long Beach.

Raging Waters opens a new, 2,000-square-foot attraction for young children on Saturday called Kids Kingdom. It includes a maze of tubes, tunnels, slides, swings and waterfalls. Raging Waters Drive, San Dimas.

San Diego Wild Animal Park’s new exhibit is the “Hidden Jungle.” San Pasqual Road, Escondido.

San Diego Zoo has a new chimpanzee exhibit and 22 aviaries with rare birds from Asia and Australia. Pandas from China are expected to visit during the summer. Zoo Drive, San Diego.

Sea World opens its new Rocky Point Reserve this weekend. The interactive habitat is for bottlenose dolphins and sea otters. The park’s “Summer Nights” program runs from June 19 to Labor Day and includes “Shamu’s Night Magic,” fireworks and laser show and sea lion and otter show. Sea World Drive, San Diego.

Six Flags Magic Mountain’s “Batman Night of Fireworks and Laser Extravaganza” opened Saturday and runs nightly except Mondays through Sept. 6. Magic Mountain Parkway, Valencia.

Universal Studios Hollywood’s new CityWalk is open, featuring late-night activity in the form of entertainment-oriented restaurants, shops and street performers. Universal City.
