Less than an hour after a friendly pool game, an unemployed machinist returned to a Van Nuys bar and fatally shot a Panorama City man and critically wounded his friend, the injured man testified Wednesday.

Gregory Garner identified Joe Lozano, whose murder trial began Wednesday in Van Nuys Superior Court, as the gunman who opened fired April 7, 1992, in the Rack ‘N’ Tap Bar in the 8700 block of Van Nuys Boulevard.

Lozano is accused of attempted murder in the shooting of Garner, 28, and of murder in the death of Ronald Wayne Clark, 26.

After the pool game with Garner and Clark ended, Lozano left, then returned about 45 minutes later, Garner testified.

Garner said he saw Lozano waving a gun and started to move toward him when shots rang out.

“I just grabbed my side and I knew I had been shot,” he said.

Garner testified that he ran for the back door, but he heard other gunshots and turned to see Clark falling to the ground.

Lozano chased him out of the bar and fired more shots as he ran through a parking lot, Garner said.
