SIMI VALLEY : Wolford to Assume Top Schools Post

Share

Deputy Supt. Mary Beth Wolford will assume the Simi Valley Unified School District’s top post beginning July 1, replacing retiring Supt. Robert Purvis.

The appointment of Wolford, 60, was formally approved Tuesday by the school board, ending a search that drew 21 applicants and eight finalists, school officials said.

The three-year contract awards Wolford a salary of $99,500 a year, contrasted with the $94,000 salary extended to Purvis during his nearly three-year reign.

Wolford has served as the district’s business and property manager since 1987. She was elevated to second-in-command two years ago. Previously, Wolford was superintendent of the Byron Union School District in Contra Costa County, a kindergarten-through-eighth-grade district with fewer than 1,000 students.

She has said her top priority will be maintaining the district’s financial stability during a time of budget cutbacks statewide. Until her replacement is named in August, Wolford will continue her property management duties.
