CALABASAS : Highway Lane Closed Following Landslide

Share

One lane of the Mulholland Highway in Calabasas was indefinitely closed to everyone but local residents Wednesday afternoon after a landslide sent rocks barreling onto the heavily traveled two-lane roadway, officials said.

The slide, on the south side of the Mulholland Highway, east of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, caused no injuries, Department of Public Works spokeswoman Donna Guyovich said.

On Wednesday afternoon, workers removed enough rocks and dirt from the road to reopen one of the lanes. Until the debris is completely removed, however, the road will be restricted to residents of the area, Guyovich said.

“At this point, we’re not sure when we can get it cleared,” Guyovich said. “First, we have to determine how stable the mountain is so we don’t do anything to create a worse situation.”

Guyovich said a determination might be made today.

Public Works employees have installed barricades and stop signs in each direction to allow cars to use the road, Guyovich said. Additionally, a flagman will be posted at the slide during peak morning and evening commute hours.
