David Kamau of Los Angeles stopped Fidel Avendano of Mexico at 2:12 of the second round in a junior-welterweight bout Monday night at the Forum.

Avendano never recovered from a left hook two minutes into the first round. He was knocked down with a left-right combination early in the second round of the scheduled 12-round fight.

Avendano went down without a count later in the round and slumped to the canvas after referee Robert Bird stopped the bout with Avendano, unable to defend himself, on the ropes.
