BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : IRS Investigates Strawberry, Report Says
Darryl Strawberry reportedly is the target of an Internal Revenue Service investigation for allegedly failing to report thousands of dollars of income.
The New York Daily News reported in today’s editions that Strawberry is suspected of not reporting as income money he earned from autographing balls, bats and other types of memorabilia.
The newspaper, quoting unnamed law enforcement sources, said the Strawberry probe may be related to the tax investigation that led to the 1990 conviction of Pete Rose, baseball’s all-time hit leader.
Federal investigators reportedly have subpoenaed records of various sports memorabilia companies and believe they have enough evidence to present the case to a grand jury, the newspaper reported.
Strawberry said he was unaware of the probe, adding, “I don’t have anything to hide. I claimed everything I made.”
