Three San Fernando Valley teen-agers--including a 14-year-old Sylmar boy--were shot to death in separate attacks over the weekend, and investigators were still searching Sunday for the killers, Los Angeles police said.

In the most recent incident, an 18-year-old Arleta man was fatally shot outside a house in Lake View Terrace early Sunday, Detective Marshall White said.

The man, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, died at Pacifica Hospital in Sun Valley about 6 a.m., four hours after he was shot in the 11500 block of Wheeler Avenue, White said.

White said the man was standing with a group of friends outside a house when gunshots rang out, apparently fired from down the block. One shot struck the victim in the back. His companions drove him to the hospital, where he died after undergoing surgery.

Detectives found no motive for the shooting and were searching for suspects and witnesses Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, a 14-year-old Sylmar boy died about 1:30 p.m. after he underwent surgery at Holy Cross Hospital to remove a bullet that struck him as he sat with friends at a Mission Hills intersection.

Detectives suspect the shot that killed Mario Croker was fired from an overpass of the Golden State Freeway at San Fernando Mission Boulevard.

White said the boy was struck in the upper torso as he sat with friends at Laurel Canyon and San Fernando Mission boulevards about 10 p.m. Friday. Witnesses said they saw several flashes from the northbound overpass of the freeway at the time of the shooting.

“We think a car stopped there and fired toward Laurel Canyon,” White said.

The intersection is a popular gathering spot for young people who cruise Laurel Canyon on weekend nights. White said no motive has been established for the crime, or even whether Mario, who was driven to the hospital by friends, was the intended victim.

“They could have been shooting at anybody,” White said.

Minutes after midnight Saturday, an argument at a party in Pacoima turned deadly when a 15-year-old Sun Valley boy was shot and killed. Abel Hernandez was shot once in the chest during a dispute with several others at the party attended by 100 people in the 10400 block of Oneida Avenue, Detective Richard Knapp said.

It was unclear what the fight was about, Knapp said.
