It’s not every day that a local ad agency has its design work televised on ESPN--for free.

Salvati Montgomery Sakoda in Costa Mesa has designed the decorative image that will cover the parquet floor for the Anaheim Arena. The floor is due to be installed in time for a Sunday event called “Battle of the Basketball Stars,” which is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN, the all-sports cable channel.

The design is in forest green and salmon, with a stylized Anaheim in the center. Around the border of the floor are the words Anaheim Arena.

Designer Jim Wylie said the challenge was to bring the various elements together. “I wanted to make the floor a focal point,” he said. “So I bordered it with a darker color to make it stand out.”

The floor, which was manufactured and painted in Boston, is being flown into Anaheim in jigsaw puzzle-like pieces. It is made from northern maple hardwood and is similar to the temporary flooring used by the Los Angeles Lakers.

The floor can be removed easily for hockey games to be played next season by the Mighty Ducks. The Arena, to be known as “The Pond” during hockey season, is still searching for a professional basketball team as a tenant.

Salvati Montgomery Sakoda, which employs 54 people, handles advertising and public relations for clients such as International House of Pancakes, PacTel Cellular and the Los Angeles Times.
