Caltrans is planning to close the northbound Santa Ana Freeway from Tustin Ranch Road to the Costa Mesa Freeway this weekend.

The closure will be from midnight Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday so crews can re-stripe the freeway, Caltrans officials said.

The northbound on-ramps at Tustin Ranch Road and Red Hill Avenue also will be closed for the same period, officials said.

A similar closure on the southbound side of the freeway from The City Drive to Main Street is scheduled nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Sunday and ending July 2. This is for bridge work.

Caltrans also announced that Grand Avenue at the Santa Ana Freeway in Santa Ana will be closed tonight at 9 to Friday at 5 a.m. for bridge work. The southbound freeway on-ramp will remain open, however.

The closures are part of the massive $1.6-billion Santa Ana Freeway widening project, which is being done in segments. When completed, the freeway will be doubled in width from Irvine to Norwalk. From Irvine south to San Juan Capistrano, the freeway will be widened to include car-pool lanes.

Freeway Gets New Stripes A portion of the northbound Santa Ana Freeway will be closed from midnight Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday so crews can re-stripe the lanes. Caltrans suggests the following detours: Northbound freeway traffic exit at Tustin Ranch Road, turn right to Irvine Boulevard, proceed to 4th Street on-ramp to re-enter northbound freeway. To enter the freeway from northbound Red Hill Avenue, turn left at Irvine Boulevard and proceed to the 4th Street on-ramp. To enter freeway from southbound Red Hill Avenue, turn right at Nisson Road, right at Newport Avenue, left at Irvine Boulevard and proceed to the 4th Street on-ramp.
