CALABASAS : Input on Renovation Is Sought at Festival

Share

Calabasas officials hope today’s Showdown in Old Town festival brings public input on the future of the city’s two-block historic core, as well as providing family fun for the residents.

The Old West-style party, which starts with a pancake breakfast and ends with a barbecue and Western dance, is scheduled to include games, vendors, music, wagon rides, a farmers market and stunt performers doing roping and riding tricks.

The city’s consultants in charge of designing the planned $38,000 renovation of Old Calabasas also will be there, canvassing the crowd for suggestions on how best to bring back the spirit of the area from a century ago.

So far, plans for renovation include period lighting, wooden sidewalks, landscaping and period signs for merchants on the stretch of Calabasas Road between Park Granada Boulevard and El Canon Avenue.

“We’re open to suggestions, and hopefully we’ll get a good turnout,” said Calabasas Director of Community Development Steve Harris. “This is a very active town over here, so we expect many people in the community will want to have their say in how the project is done.”

Plans for the renovation will be developed during the rest of the year, with construction expected to begin sometime next year.
