By Sunday, Alex Stewart will either be a 29-year-old heavyweight in line for a title shot or a former contender with a reputation of not winning the big one.

Stewart will mark his birthday by fighting a rematch with Evander Holyfield tonight at the Convention Center.

“It’s very rare to get a second chance,” Stewart said.

Actually, it’s a last chance for Stewart, who was knocked out of the championship picture by Holyfield on Nov. 4, 1989.

Two fights after that victory, Holyfield knocked out Buster Douglas in the third round and won the title he held until being outpointed by Riddick Bowe last Nov. 13.

The 30-year-old Holyfield, who retired briefly after the loss, sees the fight as a step to a rematch with Bowe.

Holyfield is 28-1, Stewart 32-4.

In a title bout, John John Molina of Puerto Rico will defend the International Boxing Federation junior-lightweight crown against Manuel Medina of Mexico.

Another 12-round bout will match middleweights Vinny Pazienza and Lloyd Honeyghan.
