Westside residents can take in the 23rd annual Gay and Lesbian Pride Parade today without leaving home.

The West Hollywood event will be televised over Century Cable beginning at 11 a.m.

Viewers in West Hollywood and Beverly Hills can watch it on Channel 14. In other cities it will be on Channel 10, said David Welch, a West Hollywood business leader who helped put the broadcast together last week.

“A lot of people are bed-ridden who have AIDS. This is important,” Welch said. “We want them to feel a part of this event.”

The annual parade, held in conjunction with a two-day festival, has been broadcast live in the past, but this year budget-conscious organizers decided instead to produce a parade film to be aired in July.

The West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and Century Cable stepped in at the last minute to arrange a live broadcast, which will be emceed by producers Melinda Tremiglio and David Reed.

The broadcast, including interviews with celebrities and political figures, will originate from Santa Monica and San Vicente boulevards.
