A fire caused by faulty electrical wiring raced through a garage and into an adjoining house Monday afternoon, causing an estimated $120,000 in damage, fire officials said.

An unidentified woman and child were home at the time of the blaze, but they escaped without injury.

The fire began shortly before 1:45 p.m. in the garage of the single-story house in the 1100 block of Drayton Avenue, said Kathleen Cha, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Fire Department.

The flames spread into the house through an open door. Cinders scorched the roof of a nearby house, causing slight damage, fire officials said.

Cha said two dozen firefighters battled the blaze for about half an hour before it was brought under control.

Investigators were still trying to determine who installed the wiring in the garage, Cha said.
