LOS ANGELES AIRPORT : LAX Bans Smoking, but Awaits City Council OK

Share

Los Angeles International Airport has a new ban on smoking in all terminals, waiting areas, private lounges and restaurants, but the rule carries no sanctions unless the City Council concurs.

The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners approved the ban--one of the most restrictive smoking policies among U.S. airports--in most areas of LAX. It recommended that the council establish penalties.

Currently, travelers can smoke in airport bars and in designated sections in restaurants, waiting areas and private lounges. Last week, the council narrowly approved a ban on smoking in all the city’s restaurants. It becomes effective in late July.
