THOUSAND OAKS : 2-Week School Office Closure to Save Funds
The administrative offices of the Conejo Valley Unified School District will be closed for two weeks beginning today as part of the cost-saving measures approved by the school board last month.
The Thousand Oaks offices will reopen July 15, Assistant Supt. Sarah Hart said.
Reducing classified and maintenance employees from 12 months of work a year to 11 1/2 will save the district $135,500, Hart said.
Administrators, supervisors and managers were required to take a five-day furlough under the budget cuts, saving $110,000, Hart said.
During the second week of the shutdown, administrators, supervisors and managers will be required to take five days of their vacation time, Hart said.
In addition, principals and other employees who would normally be off in July must take unpaid leave later in the year, Hart said.
The district had to cut $2.1 million in programs and services to trim a projected deficit from the $75 million operating budget, Hart said.
