OXNARD : 4 Police Officers to Be Promoted
- Share via
Four Oxnard police officers are scheduled to be promoted today, adding a sixth lieutenant’s position to the department and clearing the way for the hiring of seven entry-level officers.
The promotions and hiring plans are the result of the City Council’s unanimous vote June 15 to give the Police Department $500,000 to beef up its patrol division and traffic unit.
The same night, the council adopted an austere $60-million budget that will eliminate 23 1/2 positions from various departments and cut $2 million from municipal services.
The police promotions will be made official during a 3 p.m. ceremony in City Council chambers, 305 W. Third St.
Sgt. Robert Elder will be promoted to a lieutenant.
Senior Officer Rafael Nieves will be promoted to sergeant, filling Elder’s position.
Officers Bruce Reed and Fred Sedillos will be promoted to senior police officers.
