STUDIO CITY : Group Offers to Clean Stretch of Freeway

Share

A Studio City residents association has offered to provide the California Department of Transportation with volunteer manpower to help clean up an unkept stretch of the Ventura Freeway in Studio City.

Members of the Studio City Residents Assn. said that if Caltrans will provide the equipment, they will mount a volunteer effort to cut down overgrown weeds and pick up trash along the freeway’s course through Studio City.

Members said the overgrown weeds are not only unsightly, but pose a fire hazard and provide a hiding place for vagrants and vandals.

“This is just an extension of the ‘Studio City Cares’ philosophy,” said Tony Lucente, president of the association, referring to a slogan for the group’s campaign to discourage panhandling. “Not only does Studio City care about the homeless, but it cares about its appearance too.”

Lucente said he is aware that the transportation agency is facing tough fiscal times and that he views the offer to help as a responsible solution to the problem.

“This is our city and we’re proud of it,” he said. “It’s our duty to help out.”
