Passenger Killed When Car Slams Into Palm Tree

HUNTINGTON BEACH — One man died and another man was in critical condition Wednesday after their speeding car crashed into a palm tree in front of the Seacliff Country Club, police said.
Richard S. Buckley, 39, of Huntington Beach was driving his 1990 Lexus “at a high rate of speed” west on Palm Avenue when he lost control, Sgt. J.B. Hume said.
Buckley was taken to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center after the 4 p.m. accident, police said.
His passenger, Craig Wood, 31, of Lakewood, was dead on arrival at Pacifica Community Hospital in Huntington Beach, Hume said.
The accident was being investigated, Hume said.
