High Life: A WEEKLY FORUM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS : Ocean View Teen to Go to Leaderhip Seminar
Eric Wersching, 16, of Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach, has been selected to attend the International Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar in Columbus, Ohio, July 30 to Aug. 7.
Wersching was among nearly 300 high school sophomores invited to a Hugh O’Brian weekend workshop last month at the University of San Diego. A panel of 12 judges there chose Wersching to attend the Ohio seminar.
Attendees at the workshop debated current issues, attended spirit rallies and heard lectures about career planning and motivation from professionals ranging from educators to politicians, journalists and environmentalists.
Topics included “Ethics in the Media and Communications” and “Education: The Doorway to Success.” Speakers advocated leadership, community service and education as keys to success.
More than 90 Hugh O’Brian workshops, in their 35th year of operation, are held annually in North America, officials said. For information on the seminars, call (714) 947-4154.
