Mighty Ducks Get Television Deal From Another Disney Operation
The Mighty Ducks, who reached the 11,500-mark in season-ticket sales this week, announced Friday that they will have 20 games on KCAL-TV (Channel 9) in their first NHL season.
KCAL, like the Ducks owned by the Walt Disney Co., will carry some home and some away games, including the Ducks’ home opener in October. Dates of the opener and the other broadcasts have not been determined and announcers have not been hired.
The Ducks are still working on a radio network and announcers for next season.
There was little professional hockey on over-the-air television in Southern California until KTLA (Channel 5) began broadcasting some Kings games two seasons ago. The Prime Ticket cable network carries most King games, home and away.
The Ducks have set a goal of 15,000 season tickets for the new Anaheim arena, which will seat 17,250 for hockey. The remaining 2,250 seats per game will be held out for single-game and group sales.
