Volunteers who turn out this morning for a monthly graffiti cleanup in Oxnard will get some help from their representatives in Sacramento.

Assemblyman Nao Takasugi and state Sen. Cathie Wright, Republicans whose districts include Oxnard, will attend the Neighborhood Uplift cleanup event that will run from 8 a.m. until about noon.

Organized by the Oxnard Police Department three months ago, the project enlists volunteers to spend one Saturday morning each month painting over graffiti.

The volunteers are rewarded with breakfast and lunch donated by residents and businesses.

Today, Takasugi will help serve a pancake breakfast to an estimated 150 volunteers at Hueneme High School, 500 Bard Road, at 8 a.m., said Jaylene Hobrecht, an aide in the assemblyman’s Oxnard office.

Following the breakfast, Takasugi will join volunteers in cleaning graffiti at various locations.

After the work is done, Wright will help serve volunteers an enchilada lunch, Hobrecht said.
