Share

Ten gang members were arrested Thursday and four guns, $8,100 in cash and $38,000 worth of cocaine were seized during raids stemming from a series of crimes in South-Central Los Angeles, police said.

Cmdr. Art Lopez, acting commander of the LAPD’s South Bureau, said the investigation started after Jesus Francisco Hernandez, 24, was shot to death during the attempted carjacking at Vermont Avenue and 29th Street on March 12. Lopez said the inquiry was expanded to include more than 30 crimes in the area believed committed by the same gang between December and March.

The suspects--seven adults and three juveniles--have been booked on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery and other crimes, Lopez said. Whether the person who shot Hernandez is among those arrested has yet to be determined, he said.
