A 3-year-old girl who was asleep in her mother’s car when it was stolen from a store parking lot in Bell on Monday was found wandering in a neighborhood three miles away.
Leslie Melero was in her mother’s dark-blue Oldsmobile Cutlass at 4:37 p.m. when the car was stolen in the 4000 block of Gage Ave., Bell Police Officer Sharon Jackson said.
“The mother left the keys in the car, with the baby sleeping inside, while she went into the market,” Jackson said.
About 6 p.m., Bell police said, they found Leslie at a home in Bell Gardens, about three miles from where the car was stolen. Police said they took the child to the police station, where her waiting mother identified her.
