ST. LOUIS — Toronto Blue Jay coach Rich Hacker was in serious but stable condition Monday with injuries sustained in a late-night automobile accident, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Hacker, 46, was in the intensive care unit at St. Louis University Hospital with a head injury and a fractured right ankle.
Hacker’s car was struck head-on by a car that was drag-racing about 11:45 p.m. Sunday while Hacker was on his way from St. Louis’ Lambert Airport to his home in Belleville, Ill., the Blue Jays said.
“It puts a real damper on things,” said Blue Jay Manager Cito Gaston, who is in Baltimore for tonight’s All-Star game.
