WANT ADS: Think there’s no chance of scoring a job as a Geffen Records artists & repertoire talent scout--one of the most coveted positions in the music industry? Don’t be so sure.

Geffen executives John David Kalodner and Tom Zutaut have let it be known that they’re looking for some new blood for the department, an office that recently launched Gary Gersh to the presidency of Capitol Records and where the executives often share in the stardom of their top acts (Kalodner has been featured in Aerosmith videos).

“We’re looking for people with fresh ideas about music,” says Kalodner, adding that music industry experience is not a prerequisite for the job.

If you think you’ve got what it takes, send a tape of several acts you would sign to Geffen Records, 9130 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles 90069. No calls will be accepted.

Testimony to how lucrative the A&R; world can be is demonstrated in a new long-term contract signed by Michael Goldstone, the Epic Wunderkind who, along with Sony executive vice president Michele Anthony, brought Pearl Jam to the company. Goldstone is also riding the burgeoning success of Rage Against the Machine, the L.A. band that is looking like the big winner on the “Lollapalooza ‘93” tour.
