Coyote Is Not ‘Nature’s Supreme Opportunist’

Share

* My family applauds the Los Angeles Department of Animal Regulation in its decision to end its long-standing practice of killing coyotes, “Argument Starts Anew as Coyote Killing Ends,” July 4.

I must differ, however, with calling the coyote “nature’s supreme opportunist.” I am sorry that Bruce Bialosky lost a beloved companion animal, but if he had been a truly responsible dog owner, he would not have left his dog outside, alone at night--especially if he lived in the hills.

Bialosky calls the coyote a scummy animal, one that is not nice. Even if that description were true, which it is not, that does not give humans permission to eradicate still another species from this earth.
