LOCAL NOTES : Gonzalez Scores 16 for County Team
Tony Gonzalez, an all-county forward from Huntington Beach High, scored 16 points to help the Orange County all-star team defeat South Dakota, 77-67, in the 20th Nike National Prep Basketball Championship Saturday at Las Vegas.
More than 100 teams from around the country are competing in the tournament, which conclude with the finals next Saturday.

Fresno State’s Andy Stewart, a Huntington Beach High and Golden West alumni, was defeated by Keith Montgomery of UCLA, 3-6, 3-6, 6-3, in the second of five tournaments of men’s singles at the ITA Collegiate Circuit at Golden West College Saturday.
In men’s doubles, Billy Wright (Stanford) and Johnson Parker (UCLA), defeated Phong Nguyen and Frank Tran (Cal Poly Pomona), 6-3, 7-6. In women’s singles, Lisa Alipaz (San Diego State), defeated Nicole Elliott (California), 6-4, 7-5. In women’s doubles, Renee Marshall (Colorado) and Ljillijana Kordic (Nevada Las Vegas) defeated Courtney Strauss (UC Santa Barbara) and Jeannette Fylpaa (UNLV) 6-1, 6-1.
