ANAHEIM — Firefighters discovered the nude body of a man Sunday after quickly putting out a blaze in a vacant commercial building at 1700 S. Lewis St., authorities said.
The victim was tentatively identified as a 46-year-old transient who frequented the area. Investigators were trying to reach a relative Sunday to confirm the identification.
Senior Deputy Coroner Rick McAnally said the cause of death is under investigation by police. He said the man may have committed suicide by setting his mattress ablaze on a wooden patio outside the structure. The victim’s clothes, McAnally said, were probably burned off.
The building was once occupied by Georgia-Pacific lumber company. Damage to the building was estimated at $5,000.
