LOS ANGELES : Police Officer Accused of Arson, Insurance Fraud
A Los Angeles police officer was charged Monday with setting fire to his car to collect the insurance money.
Stuart Howard Guy, 28, was arrested by Los Angeles Fire Department officials who investigated the Sept. 2 fire on the 6100 block of Sepulveda Boulevard in Van Nuys. The district attorney’s office Monday charged Guy with arson and insurance fraud.
Guy, a 4 1/2-year LAPD veteran assigned to the Harbor Division, reported to police in late August that his 1991 Jeep Cherokee had been stolen from his girlfriend’s apartment, authorities said. Several days later, Guy’s vehicle went up in flames.
Hours after his vehicle was set ablaze, Guy attended a training session, where fellow officers noted that he had burns on his face and hands, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Robert L. Cohen.
