A 32-year-old Fullerton man was shot and killed during a fight with two juveniles who were later arrested on suspicion of murder, police said Monday.

Jaime Martinez was shot three times in the head and chest and declared dead on arrival at a Western Medical Center-Santa Ana after the 8:20 p.m. fight Sunday in the 1100 block of West Brook Street, Sgt. T.G. Sawyer said. The two juveniles, ages 16 and 17, both of Santa Ana, were arrested after they were found hiding in a nearby apartment, Sawyer said.

Martinez and his brother, Leo Martinez, 40, also of Fullerton, who are drywall installers, apparently were in the neighborhood near McFadden Avenue and Bristol Street looking for work, Sgt. Art Echternacht said.

A fistfight among the four males eventually escalated into the shooting, Sawyer said.

After questioning, Leo Martinez was also held on suspicion of murder, Echternacht said.

” Although it looked like one of the juveniles did the shooting, we arrested Leo Martinez on the approximate cause rule . . . meaning he apparently caused the brother to be in a position where he was killed,” Echternacht said.
