PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Marinovich Now Must Sit and Wait

Share

After the first seven games of last season, Todd Marinovich was the quarterback for the Raiders. He had replaced starter Jay Schroeder early in the season and had led the team to a three-game winning streak.

Since then, however, Marinovich’s stock has dropped. He played in only two of the team’s final nine games and this year, he is third on the team’s depth chart in training camp at Oxnard.

Instead of being the team’s starter, Marinovich, 24, must wait his turn after veterans Jeff Hostetler and Vince Evans, with rookie Billy Joe Hobert waiting in the wings.

“There was a lot of pressure last year because everyone wanted to me to do well and take over,” said Marinovich, who completed 81 of 165 passes for 1,102 yards and five touchdowns last season. “I’m sitting third right now, but I’m not that disappointed because it is a long season.”

The Raiders signed fifth-round draft choice Olanda Truitt, a 6-foot-1 wide receiver from Mississippi State. They also reached agreement with veteran linebacker Aaron Wallace.
