Atwater : Community Picnic Planned
After a dismal turnout the first year, the Atwater Village Residents’ Assn. is sponsoring a second annual neighborhood picnic for residents on Saturday at the Chevy Chase Recreation Center, 4165 Chevy Chase Drive.
The association is viewing the picnic as a means to gauge the neighborhood’s ability to join forces for future community interests and activities, said Cesiah Lane, treasurer for the group. If this event is successful, the association may use future picnics as fund-raising events to create activities for area children, she said.
“But first, we want to see if we can get the people together,” Lane said.
The free picnic, from 3 to 6 p.m., will feature games, contests and music. Residents are asked to take a picnic lunch.
State and local community leaders, including newly elected Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg, Deputy Councilman David Hershey and Assemblyman Pat Nolan, will attend.
For information, call David Wilson, chairman of Atwater Village Residents’ Assn. at (213) 668-0561.
