IRVINE : City Administrator Strojny Leaving Area

Bernard M. Strojny, Irvine’s director of administrative services and the budget, is leaving the city after five years to accept a position with the city of Palo Alto.

Strojny’s last day will be Aug. 6. He officially becomes Palo Alto’s assistant city manager on Aug. 9.

“This is an excellent opportunity from a professional and personal standpoint,” he said of his move to the Bay Area city near Stanford University. “Working for a city with an excellent reputation like Palo Alto fits well with my career plans.”

Strojny has held three different job since arriving in Irvine in 1988 from the city of Walnut Creek in Contra Costa County. He served as director of administrative services until 1989, when he was promoted to assistant city manager.

In January, he became director of administrative services and the budget as part of a City Hall personnel restructuring. The position placed him in charge of fiscal services, the budget office, personnel services, computer systems and purchasing. He also worked on labor negotiations.

Strojny said he is looking forward to his new job, saying it will give him a chance to deal with a variety of city services, work on regional issues and interact with the public.
