Share

The Angels, who have lost eight consecutive games to fall out of the American League West race, are expected to have a front-office meeting this week to discuss possible player moves.

They are considering bringing up pitcher Phil Leftwich, catcher Chris Turner, reliever Darrell Scott, third baseman Eduardo Perez and outfielder Garret Anderson before the season ends.

Leftwich, the Angels’ second-round pick in 1990, is 4-1 with a 1.54 earned-run average in his last five starts. He has given up 37 hits and only 13 walks in 52 2/3 innings in that period, striking out 43.

“I’d like to take a good look at him,” Manager Buck Rodgers said. “If he’s in our plans for ‘94, we might as well get his feet wet.”
