Boy Killed While Playing With Gun
A boy who was apparently playing with a loaded gun was shot and killed Thursday night when the weapon discharged, authorities said.
It was unclear whether the victim was holding the weapon or was shot by another youngster who was also playing with the gun, police said. Police said they believed the shooting was accidental.
Officers were called to the 500 block of Loyola Drive about 9:30 p.m. when the gun fired while the two boys, ages 12 and 13, were handling it inside the home, Lt. Chuck Babcock said. Police said it appeared that the two boys were alone in the house.
The unidentified boy died about 10:30 p.m., according to the nursing supervisor at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
There have been at least three other accidental shootings involving young children in Orange County so far this year, one of which was fatal.
